Homelessness and housing instability is increasing across the nation, and that includes here in Darke County. The simple fact is that there are people and families living on the streets and in their vehicles in Darke County, OH. People and families who want help, need help, and are eligible for help — yet, at this time, help is not available.

At the publishing of this page, the general emergency homeless shelter is closed, and is not slated to reopen for at least another two months. While there are specialized services for people in recovery and with mental health conditions or developmental needs, significant barriers including complex eligibility and waiting lists are keeping vulnerable people on the streets.

In some cases, recipients may be eligible for long-term HUD Vouchers. However, as of the July 14, 2026 Darke County Continuum of Care Report, no new funds are available in Darke County for Housing Vouchers, despite an increasing need. The Task Force is committed to addressing these gaps and barriers.
